St Maarten hotels – Marigot

by in st maarten all inclusive

Originally a fishing village, Marigot is the capital of St Maarten’s French side. Delightfully French in atmosphere and spirit, the city is small (only four streets wide) and cosy.

Marigot is home to Fort St. Louis, sitting on a hill overlooking its stunning bay – the fort itself was built by King Louis XVI during his reign. The fort is open to visitors 24/7, with informative signs to explain related historical events. Marigot Bay itself has been described by novelist James A Michener as “the most beautiful in the Caribbean”.

Marigot also boasts a bustling open-air market every Wednesday and Saturday, in which bargains on just about everything you can think of can be scouted out, from coconuts and avocados to paintings and arts and crafts. But if you’re more interested in luxury goods, the southern end of Marigot also offers a selection of stores selling designer fashion and jewelry, all free of tax.

The luxury Marigot Bay Hotel boasts an eco-friendly approach to your vacation, as well as a spa, fine dining and bars by the harbour.

Marigot Beach Club and Dive Resort, meanwhile, offers studios and villas, along with a freshwater pool and a range of activities from diving to organized tours and even a new casino.
